What is Really Going on Here

I am using this blog to explore the challenges to America. I am getting my information from current books on economics, politics, etc. This appears the best source as the author(s) have the time to put many variables together in one place. I am hardly an expert on any of the problems facing America, so I just keep reading.

Born in 1945, I can't remember our nation being in such a state. For decades we have bought into the free trade globalization concept; all of this was pushed by multinational corporations, Wall Street, and our elected officials of both parties. I quess it worked out fine for the above three; well maybe not so well for Wall Street. But then Wall Street sort of got bailed out by the American taxpayers. It appears that we, the American Consumer, were the engine for all of this growth. We would play a major role as consumers and this would provide the capital for all the production coming out of China, India, etc. I guess no one thought ahead to who was going to be the next consumer group when America had outsourced many of its jobs. Add to that a huge influx of illegal immigrants from all over competing for scarce jobs. Living in Central New Jersey, I see a lot of this. I would quess that businesses of all sizes love this source of cheap labor, but I would also quess that, on average, it is negative drain on the American economy. The current solution to our current problems seems to be more of the same.

There appears to be an under-the-radar movement in America, Canada, and Mexico to form some sort of North American Union, similar to the European Union. It starts with trade and then moves on to a regional government. There many projects in the US, Canada, and Mexico currently underway to provide cheap transport for goods coming from Asia.

As mentioned before, the pressure for this is coming from the business community, Wall Street, and our elected officials. I think Labor and the average American citizen are being left out of the discussion.
